TENNESSEANS FOR QUALITY EARLY EDUCATION
We are a non-profit, bipartisan coalition of organizations and individuals committed to early childhood education as an essential foundation and urgent priority for a thriving Tennessee.
We are your eyes and ears for issues and legislation that can affect our future. But we cannot do it alone. We need your action to make sure that our collective future is bright.
Right now there are several items being discussed that could affect your future:
- Parent-teacher engagement. HB xxxx/SBxxxx will pilot a best practice model, such as APTT or similar, where parents team up with teachers to better support their child’s progress at school. The Department of Education will run the pilot program and through it launch new pathways to ensure parents are meaningfully engaged in their child’s learning.
- Budget amendment xxxx would enhance Governor Haslam’s plan to address the opioid crisis by adding home visiting to support parents to be their child’s best teacher. Home visiting is a highly effective, evidence-based early childhood intervention providing personal support for families from pregnancy through their children’s first years of life. Especially when families are facing opioid addition, nurturing and protecting their children becomes all the more difficult and critical. Home visiting support can make all the difference.
Where you live should not determine if or how you live. The majority of Tennessee’s 3rd graders are not proficient in math and reading. Yet 3rd grade is a pivotal year for future academic success.
